In fact, we\u2019re told that Satan was initially created \u201cblameless\u201d with wisdom and perfect beauty. Lucifer became consumed with pride over his splendor, desiring to be higher than God.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"author row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-sm-12 col-xs-12 authorInfo\">\n<p>God is the Father of all Creation, from all things in the physical realm to all things in the spiritual realm (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=john+1:3\">John 1:3<\/a>;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=colossians+1%3a15-17\">Colossians 1:15-17<\/a>). In fact, the angels were in attendance when God laid the foundation of the world and celebrated the forming of the physical universe with songs and shouts for joy (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=job+38%3a4-7\">Job 38:4-7<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>While we obviously don\u2019t know the exact details of Lucifer\u2019s origin, scholars believe that the Bible gives us insight into Lucifer\u2019s position in heaven as well as his fall therefrom.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. God created Lucifer good.\u00a0<\/strong>God is the Father of all Creation (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=john+1:3\">John 1:3<\/a>;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=colossians+1%3a15-17\">Colossians 1:15-17<\/a>). The only entity who was not created is God Himself, who inhabits eternity as the Alpha and the Omega (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=isaiah+57:15\">Isaiah 57:15<\/a>;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=revelations+1:8\">Revelation 1:8<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>From God\u2019s hand sprung forth every other thing that has, does, and will exist. This includes Lucifer, whom the Bible tells us was \u201ccreated\u201d and who initially dwelt in heaven and in the garden of Eden (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=ezekiel+28:13\">Ezekiel 28:13<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>As God\u2019s creation, we know that Lucifer was created good (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=genesis+1:31\">Genesis 1:31<\/a>;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=ezekiel+28:13\">Ezekiel 28:13<\/a>). In fact, we\u2019re told that Satan was initially created \u201cblameless\u201d in all his ways, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=ezekiel+28%3a12-15\">Ezekiel 28:12-15<\/a>).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In fact, such a model of perfection was Satan that God gave him a position of prominence among the angels (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=ezekiel+28:14\">Ezekiel 28:14<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. God ordained Lucifer as a guardian cherub in heaven.\u00a0<\/strong>Satan was known as the \u201cmorning star,\u201d translated as Lucifer (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=isaiah+14:12\">Isaiah 14:12<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>As an angel, Lucifer walked on God\u2019s holy mountain and was anointed to serve God as a member of the guardian\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianity.com\/wiki\/angels-and-demons\/what-is-a-cherub-the-cherubim-in-the-bible.html\">cherubim<\/a>, among the highest rank of angels in God\u2019s holy host second only to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianity.com\/wiki\/angels-and-demons\/who-are-the-seraphim-in-the-bible.html\">seraphim<\/a>\u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=ezekiel+28:14\">Ezekiel 28:14<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>That Lucifer was ordained a cherub signifies his initial position of celestial prominence, as God Himself sits \u201centhroned between the cherubim\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=isaiah+37:16\">Isaiah 37:16<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Lucifer\u2019s high rank also speaks to the gravity of his betrayal when he chose to betray his Creator.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Lucifer\u2019s sinful pride cost him his place in paradise.\u00a0<\/strong>Despite Lucifer\u2019s God-given wisdom and beauty, as well as the honor of serving in God\u2019s angelic guard, Lucifer wasn\u2019t humbled by his many blessings.<\/p>\n<p>On the contrary, Lucifer became consumed with pride over his splendor. As that pride grew, Lucifer\u2019s thoughts became so corrupt that he began desiring to be higher than God rather than to continue serving under Him (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=ezekiel+28%3a15-17\">Ezekiel 28:15-17<\/a>;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=isaiah+14%3a13-14\">Isaiah 14:13-14<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>This ravenous sense of superiority led Lucifer to exercise his free will in scheming to be greater than God and assembling an army of angels to help him carry out that plot (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=revelations+12%3a3-4\">Revelation 12:3-4<\/a>,9).<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s important to note here that Lucifer\u2019s sinful pride in rebelling against God is different from the commonplace sense of pride we feel over a job well done.<\/p>\n<p>Rather, the pride that the Bible condemns refers to the state of being so obsessed with yourself that your thoughts never turn to God and your heart never seeks Him (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=psalms+10:4\">Psalm 10:4<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>It is pride in this biblical sense that tops the list of sins that God hates (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=proverbs+6%3a16-17\">Proverbs 6:16-17<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>As punishment for his grave disobedience and dishonoring of his angelic post, God cast Lucifer out of heaven by hurling him and his army of fallen angels to Earth (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=ezekiel+28%3a16-18\">Ezekiel 28:16-18<\/a>;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=luke+10:18\">Luke 10:18<\/a>;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=revelations+12:9\">Revelation 12:9<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Lucifer then became known as Satan, humanity\u2019s adversary and accuser who prowls the Earth seeking revenge against God by sewing conflict and division among His children.<\/p>\n<p>Aiding Satan in this wicked plot is his army of fallen angels who now serve as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianity.com\/wiki\/angels-and-demons\/what-does-the-bible-say-about-demons.html\">demons<\/a>\u00a0doing Satan\u2019s bidding (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=revelations+12%3a7-9\">Revelation 12:7-9<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Satan\u2019s rebellion against God sprung from Satan\u2019s free will.\u00a0<\/strong>Although God created Satan, God did not and could not have created the evil that Satan bore in his heart and chose to act on.<\/p>\n<p>Scripture is clear that God is love (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=1+john+4:8\">1 John 4:8<\/a>). As the epitome of everything that is good, God tempts no one (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=james+1:13\">James 1:13<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>However, in His love for His creations, God gave us the free will to choose how we live our lives. Likewise, angels are beings created higher than humans (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=hebrews+2:7\">Hebrews 2:7<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>As such, angels also possess the free will to either obey God or abandon Him. Thus, although God created everything that is, Satan\u2019s choice to rise up against God sprung entirely from Satan\u2019s own volition (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=2+timothy+2:26\">2 Timothy 2:26<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>In a similar way, the legion of angels who joined Satan\u2019s rebellion willingly chose for themselves the path of sin and destruction.<\/p>\n<h2>What Does This Mean?<\/h2>\n<p>Like humanity, God created the angels \u2014 including Satan \u2014 good, and allowed the angels to choose whether to follow Him or turn from Him.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike humanity, however, the angels who chose to rebel against God in a vain attempt to usurp His throne have no hope of redemption.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, the fate that awaits them is \u201cthe eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianity.com\/bible\/bible.php?ver=niv&amp;q=matthew+25:41\">Matthew 25:41<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>There are important lessons we can draw from the Bible\u2019s account of Satan.
